Did You Drink Your Vitamins Today

Vitamins and nutritional supplements come in so many forms today.  There are tablets, gel caps, powers, liquids, and even gummies for adults.

Which one is best?  That depends on who you ask.  You’ll likely get as many answers as the number of people you ask.  You have to decide which makes sense to you.  One that you may not heard of is Isotonix.

Isotonix are based on the premise that everything you eat and drink, including vitamins and nutritional supplements, must be made isotonic before passing into your small intestine where it can be absorbed “Isotonic” means having the same fluid pressure as your other bodily fluids like blood and tears. When you eat food, drink a beverage, or take a pill or capsule, your stomach must first secrete diluting juices, enzymes, hydrochloric acid, and at least one vitamin-binding protein to continue the process of digestion. Muscular contractions of your stomach then mix the contents until a reasonably uniform solution is achieved. This process can take anywhere from 40 minutes to four hours.

In the time that it takes for most pills and capsules to disintegrate, and their contents to dissolve and transform to the proper isotonic state, much of their activity is lost. During digestion, the important micronutrients in pills and capsules can get trapped by fats, fibers, and tannins or inactivated by the highly acidic pH level of your stomach.

But Isotonix products are scientifically formulated with the perfect balance of ingredients to ensure that they are isotonic the moment they enter your body. When properly mixed with water and taken on an empty stomach, the isotonic solution flows into your small intestine almost immediately.

Isotonix products have been carefully formulated to clear your stomach at an optimal rate to maximize absorption. A pill does not fully deliver into your bloodstream the vitamins it holds within. Either the pill is dumped whole into your intestinal tract or the active ingredients pass through without being fully absorbed. Vitamins taken in Isotonix form do not have these shortcomings.

Isotonix delivers nutrient dense solutions which move from the stomach into your intestine in a fast, controlled way. And they’re buffered to resist nutrient degradation and to be gentle on your system.  To learn more, click here.

Obesity: Behind the Headlines

imagesObesity is a word that is heard frequently in the press lately.  With all the debate, the meaning of obesity frequently gets lost.  Basically, obesity is the state of having much more fat than is healthy or desirable.

The causes of obesity are often debated as well.  Is the cause of obesity the result of eating too much, not exercising enough or some other factor.  Again this debate takes away from the real issue, which is that over the last twenty years, there has been a dramatic rise in the obesity rate.   According to the Center for Disease Control, 20% of the population of nearly every state in the US is obese.   In the US as a whole, 35% of the population is estimated to be obese.

Why Is Obesity a Problem

The extra weight that comes from being obese puts extra stress on the systems of the body.  This extra stress can lead to a host of diseases and medical problems, such as:

  • Type II Diabetes
  • Heart Disease
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Stroke
  • Sleep Apnea
  • Depression
  • Bone and Joint Problems

Several recent studies indicate that obesity plays a much bigger role in preventable deaths in the U., nearly 4 times higher than originally thought.  300,000 lives a year are estimated to be lost due to obesity.

There are a number of remedies to combat obesity.  Some of these involve risk, but so does staying obese.  The right remedy is a personal choice that you should make in consultation with you health care provider.

In extreme cases, where a person is considered morbidly obese, a physician may recommend one of two surgeries.

  • Laparoscopic gastric banding is where a surgeon places a band around the upper part of the stomach, creating a small area which holds food. The band limits how much food you eat, providing the sensation that you feel full after eating smaller portions.
  • Gastric bypass surgery is where a surgeon separates the stomach into two pouches and then rearranges the small intestine based on the configuration of the stomach.

Obviously, surgery requires a great deal of thought and consultation with your doctor.  Know too, that surgery is not the “Magic Bullet.”  You will still have to change your diet and stick to it.

Let’s start with the obvious – exercise is one of the keys to weight loss.  The current thought is that 150 minutes of exercise a week is the minimum a person needs. This doesn’t necessarily mean going to a gym or doing aerobics in front of the TV.  It can be as simple as talking a walk several times a week.  If you can’t do 150 minutes a week, then don’t.  Do what you can and build up to 150 minutes (or more) a week.

In addition to burning additional calories, exercise can also help reduce stress and anxiety, make your bones stronger, and manage your blood pressure and cholesterol.

I hate the word diet because it implies a temporary change to the way you eat.  Usually when a “diet” ends and you go back to eating the way you did before, the weight comes back.  From this point forward, the word diet refers to all of the food that is consumed by a person on a regular, ongoing basis.

If you are overweight or obese, one of your main goals should be to review your current diet.   Learn new, healthy ways of eating and make them a part of your everyday routine.  Read nutrition labels and ingredients of all the foods you eat.  Work with your health care provider and find a dietitian that will help you set realistic, safe goals for daily caloric intake.  With your new found zeal to lose weight, you may be tempted to go big, but remember that if you drop pounds slowly and steadily, you are more likely to keep them off. Your dietitian can teach you about healthy food choices, portion sizes, and new ways to prepare food.

If you remember nothing else, remember this:  – This is important for you.  Find the time to get fit.  Stop waiting until Monday, or vacation to be over, or the holidays to be over.  TAKE ACTION NOW!  Your life just may depend on it.
